The Tanakaya Gallery, Fine Arts Paris
The Tanakaya gallery will be present at the Fine Arts Paris next edition that will be held from November 6 to 11, 2021 at the Carrousel du Louvre.
The gallery will present a selection of Japanese prints signed by the greatest artists of the 18th to 20th centuries.
Among the fifteen or so artists : Hokusai, Utamaro, Harunobu, Hiroshige, Kuniyoshi, Hasui, Kotondo, Shinsui. A rare set of Hasegawa Kiyoshi’s Dark–Manner engravings from the 1920s to the 1960s will also be on display.
Among the Japanese prints, a very first edition plate by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) from the series Meisho Edo Hyakkei (Cent Vues Fameuses de Edo/ One Hundred Famous Views of Edo), Kameido Umeyashiki (Le Jardin des Pruniers à Kameido/ View of the Plum Garden at Kameido), published in 1857. It is one of the most famous prints of this series, one of the two reproduced by Vincent Van Gogh in one of his paintings, from now on, in the Amsterdam Museum.
An engraving of this quality, very precise, with beautiful colours with gradations and shades, is rarely seen nowadays.
